aunt Maude's corn bread

1 and d 1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tlbs sugar
1 teas salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 cup self rising corn meal
1/2 cup self rising flour
1/2 cup butter soft


heat a cast iron skillet in a 400 degree oven with a little shortening  mix all ingredients together pour into hot skillet bake 1/2 hour or till golden    i add fresh corn  sometimes fresh herbs or a jalapeno pepper or a combo of all   today fresh corn and a pepper to go with the chicken stew
